Peak oil and peak modernism act as parallel references in an installation of new sculpture, animation and drawing by Toronto-based artist Peter Bowyer. The Torrents of Spring (2008), re-visits Bridget Riley's iconic painting Movement in Squares (1961), as a nostalgically skeptical, constructed sculpture. Albatross (2007-2008), features an animated film loop that traces the circular path of an empty transport truck from the vantage point of a galvanized crow's nest. Recent works have focused on some of the spatial and social aspects of modernism; architectural elements of the urban and suburban, as witnesses to larger transformative events.

Since the eighties Peter Bowyer has made installations combining drawing and sculpture; large scale works realized in public sites, simulated furniture and more recently animated film. A founding member of Cold City Gallery he has had solo exhibitions at The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (2006), The Art Gallery of York University (2003), The Toronto Sculpture Garden (2000), The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery (1995), and elsewhere.
