EDUARDO CONSUEGRA
Untitled
July 13 - August 11
Eduardo Consuegra is originally from Bogota, Colombia where he received his
BFA. He is currently enrolled in the MFA program at the Art Centre College
of Design in Pasadena and will graduate in 2008. He had an MFA exhibition
in February 2008 and an invitation to exhibit at PPCA followed shortly thereafter.
There was an instant attraction to the work and it properties of found posters,
coloured gels, sculpture, the play of reflection on various surfaces and the
conceptual and formal juxtapositions of cultural and pop references.
Here is a brief text from the artist:
“The appropriated images come from various sources located within popular culture. The simple gesture of framing them in their primary state make the art making process more of a reduction than an addition. The monochromes are not meant to be a transformative element. The addition is pointing more towards the process of construction and transformation that these cultural elements go through. Since the images come from different sources, their juxtaposition is meant to be read as a set of cultural contaminations, and cultural translations that took place as part of the modernization process. The works are treated in a similar manner leaving the possibility open for an exchangeability. “
