Ecstasy

April 14-May 12, 2001

Paul Petro is pleased to present this exhibition in cooperation with Toronto's Images Festival of Independent Film and Video.

Ecstasy is the third in a continuing series of video installations by Paulette Phillips. The work reflects a complex and paradoxical relationship to social ethics and morality. The performance-based video depicts a psychology in which the subject is the master of her own undoing. The video is placed within a sculptural apparatus which comments on this psychology as a physical and perceptual reality. Her three-month installation The Secret Sife of Criminals was included in the Images Festival last year. Last fall she mounted It's about how people judge appearance. Phillips is a Toronto-based artist and filmmaker who teaches at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
