Paul Petro Contemporary Art is pleased to present exhibitions by local veteran artists Robert Wiens and Ron Giii.
The decision to programme new work by these artists came well before the artists assigned titles to their exhibitions. The idea of environmental consciousness had long been associated with Robert's work since his first White Pine painting was exhibited in 1996 at our 100 Yonge St location, signalling his concern for the clear-cutting of old growth forest in the Temagami region.
Ron's history of body-based performance in the seventies and four decades of figurative/performative drawings pivoted into abstraction with Parallel Membranes (2022) and, in response to climate change, and with The Effect of Temperature (2024).
Discovering an intersection at which these long histories of painting and drawing converge has led to this programming moment. And the chance that their exhibition titles should coincide, while also providing a bit of validation for a curatorial impulse, is pure serendipity.
